RevelationMedia and IMB Launch Animated Gospel of Luke in Sign Language

Based on 2 sources Updated 1 hour ago

Biblical media company RevelationMedia has partnered with the International Mission Board (IMB) to produce an animated version of the Gospel of Luke presented entirely in American Sign Language (ASL). Unlike traditional formats that use a small interpreter window, this project features animated characters signing directly, aiming to provide an immersive experience for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences. The initiative is part of a broader effort to reach the global Deaf community, which organizers describe as one of the world's most unreached people groups, with only 2% currently considered reached with the Gospel.

Producers estimate the global Deaf population ranges from 70 million to 400 million, depending on how hearing loss is defined. The project, which utilizes technology from the interactive iBIBLE initiative, is planned as a 24-episode series covering every chapter of Luke. Following the completion of the ASL version, the organizations intend to reanimate the content into more than 300 additional sign languages. Steve Cleary, CEO of RevelationMedia, stated that the project seeks to provide the Gospel in a visual format that addresses the isolation often experienced by Deaf individuals.
