Swedish Evangelical Alliance Celebrates 25 Years of Public Witness
The Swedish Evangelical Alliance (Svenska Evangeliska Alliansen) recently commemorated its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter-century of advocating for classical Christian faith. Established on October 26, 2001, at Stockholm’s Filadelfia Church, the organization emerged from the Swedish Lausanne Committee to provide a unified voice for evangelicals across various denominations. Its early leadership focused on apologetics, specifically addressing the challenges of secularization and the rise of new atheism.
General Secretary Olof Edsinger stated that the alliance remains committed to bearing witness to Christ amidst the spread of progressive theology within Swedish free churches. The organization maintains a consistent presence in both secular and Christian media, producing approximately one article per week. Beyond its media outreach, the alliance develops resources on topics including science and faith, human sexuality, and interfaith relations. The group continues to maintain strong collaborative ties with the World Evangelical Alliance, the European Evangelical Alliance, and the Lausanne Movement as it seeks to foster unity and provide a public platform for traditional evangelical perspectives.
