Pew Research Study Examines Religious Engagement Trends Among Young Americans

A recent report from the Pew Research Center indicates that religious participation in the United States has largely stabilized following decades of decline. The study, which analyzed data from over 5,500 adults, found that 70% of Americans identify with a religion, while 34% attend services at least monthly. These figures remain consistent with data collected in 2020.

The research highlights a notable trend among the youngest adult cohort, those aged 18 to 22. This group reports a 41% monthly attendance rate, which is higher than that of older generations. However, researchers noted that this same demographic scores lower than the general population on other metrics, such as daily prayer and the personal importance of religion. Because of these mixed signals, the report cautions against concluding that a broad religious revival is currently underway, suggesting that further observation is required to determine if these attendance patterns represent a lasting shift.
