Gunmen Kill 20 in Separate Attacks Across Nigeria

At least 20 people have been killed in two separate attacks in Nigeria’s Benue and Plateau states. On September 10, suspected armed Fulani militia invaded the predominantly Christian farming community of Ayilamo in Benue State. According to the Benue State Police Command, the seven-hour assault resulted in the deaths of seven civilians and four police officers. Local security official Umishi Terungwa reported that the attackers arrived by boat and were heard chanting religious slogans during the raid.

Separately, on the night of September 13, gunmen targeted a vehicle traveling toward Jos in Plateau State. Rwang Tengwong, a spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders, stated that nine passengers were killed at Dungus Junction in the Kuru District. Among the deceased was a member of Operation Rainbow, a state-supported security initiative. While authorities have deployed additional tactical personnel to the affected regions, these incidents highlight ongoing security challenges in Nigeria's Middle Belt, where farming communities frequently face violence from armed groups.
