Joint Military Operation Rescues 29 Hostages from ADF in Eastern Congo
A joint military operation conducted by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) and the Ugandan army (UPDF) has successfully rescued 29 hostages from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in the Ituri province. The hostages, many of whom were abducted while working in their fields, had been held captive for nearly a month in the forests of Biakato and Alimbako. Survivors reported enduring severe conditions, including forced movement between camps, constant threats, and extreme food shortages.
Local officials confirmed that the survivors are currently being reunited with their families and receiving assistance to recover from the physical and psychological trauma of their captivity. While the rescue operation marks a significant development in the region, authorities noted that many hostages suffered from illness and mistreatment during their time in the bush. Security forces have urged local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help combat the ongoing threat posed by the ADF in eastern Congo.
