Former North Carolina Pastor Arrested for Embezzlement

Devin Cyrus Carroll, a 23-year-old former pastor, was arrested in August 2026 on 16 felony counts related to the alleged embezzlement of $57,934.13 from Happy Home Baptist Church in Nakina, North Carolina. Authorities allege the funds were misappropriated on or around February 27, 2024, to cover personal expenses, including payday loan repayments, veterinary bills, and various leisure activities. Carroll is currently being held on a $75,000 secured bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on September 17.

This arrest follows previous legal issues for Carroll, who was charged in July 2025 with third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor. At the time of that alleged incident, Carroll was employed as an in-school suspension aide at Conway Middle School in South Carolina. Happy Home Baptist Church, where Carroll previously served, maintains affiliations with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
