Conservative-backed school board candidates see mixed results in 2026 midterms
Candidates endorsed by the 1776 Project PAC experienced varied outcomes during the 2026 midterm elections. The organization, which advocates for parental rights, fiscal transparency, and the removal of political indoctrination from classrooms, supported over two dozen candidates across the country. While the group claims to have helped elect more than 250 members to school boards over the past three years, recent results indicate a split performance in local contests.
In Maryland, results were inconsistent across different counties. In Harford County, three of the group's five endorsed candidates are currently leading their races, while two others trail. Similarly, in Somerset and Talbot counties, some endorsed candidates hold leads while others remain behind. In Baltimore and Worcester counties, several PAC-backed candidates appear to have lost their bids for school board seats. These local contests occurred alongside broader national elections that saw Democrats secure control of the U.S. Congress.
