Michigan Senate Race Sees Cross-Party Endorsement and Church Visit Controversy

Based on 2 sources

In a notable development ahead of the Michigan U.S. Senate election, Democratic Representative Haley Stevens announced her endorsement of Republican candidate Mike Rogers. Stevens, who previously competed against Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed in the primary, stated she could no longer support his campaign. Her decision followed public disagreements regarding political alignment and El-Sayed’s recent comments dismissing parental concerns over school curriculum and gender issues as "manufactured" social distractions.

The political tension intensified when Stevens and Rogers appeared outside The Perfecting Church in Detroit on the Sunday before the election. The visit drew scrutiny, prompting Bishop Marvin Winans to clarify that his congregation does not endorse political candidates. Winans explained that the church maintains an open-door policy for all candidates and that neither politician was permitted to speak during the service. He emphasized that the church’s primary role remains prayer for those in authority, regardless of the election outcome.
