Iran Marks Embassy Seizure Anniversary with Anti-U.S. Demonstrations

Thousands of Iranians gathered across the country on Wednesday to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the 1979 seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. The annual event, which marks the day revolutionaries took 52 American diplomats hostage for 444 days, featured widespread anti-American and anti-Israeli protests. Demonstrators burned flags and displayed banners containing explicit threats against President Donald Trump.

In Tehran’s Tajrish Square, state-broadcasted events included a mock execution of an actor wearing a mask of President Trump. These displays occurred amid heightened regional tensions, as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that potential retaliatory actions would not be limited by geographical boundaries. Iranian officials, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, used the occasion to issue warnings against U.S. military intervention. While the regime publicly celebrated the recent U.S. midterm election results as a political setback for the current administration, reports indicate that Iranian leadership remains concerned about the possibility of further military strikes before the new Congress convenes in January.
