Christian ministries deliver solar-powered audio Bibles to displaced families in DR Congo

Christian organizations have successfully delivered 750 solar-powered audio Bibles to displaced families in Bunia, located in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The devices, provided by the Canadian ministry Galcom International, contain preloaded Scripture and are capable of receiving broadcasts from Rebuilders Radio, a local station that provides critical information regarding the prevention and transmission of the Bundibugyo virus.

The delivery process, managed by Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), faced significant logistical challenges, including border restrictions and flight delays. Following these obstacles, MAF transported the units from Nairobi, Kenya, to the conflict-affected region. According to an October report, 350 of the devices were distributed through nine local churches at the Kigonze displaced-persons camp in September.

This initiative serves as both an evangelistic effort and a public health measure. With the World Health Organization reporting thousands of cases and deaths related to the current Ebola outbreak, particularly in the Ituri province, organizers emphasize the importance of providing reliable health communication to those without access to conventional electricity.
