First Afghan Christian Satellite Television Channel Launches

Mozhda TV, identified by its founders as the first television channel dedicated to Afghan Christians, officially began broadcasting on Saturday, October 24. The satellite station aims to provide Christian programming in local Afghan languages to viewers both within the country and globally. Organizers described the launch as the culmination of decades of prayer and collaborative efforts between mission organizations and Afghan Christian leaders.

During the inaugural broadcast, executive director Masoud Ghorbani delivered a sermon based on Mark 6:34, reflecting on the suffering of the Afghan people and characterizing Jesus Christ as their "good shepherd" as referenced in John 10:11. Ghorbani noted that the channel’s reach is intended to be broad, potentially including members of the Taliban, and he encouraged viewers to pray for all audiences.

Founders selected satellite television as the primary medium because it remains a widely accessible technology in Afghanistan, even following the 2021 change in government. While Christian content has been broadcast to the region previously, organizers stated that this is the first dedicated channel of its kind to serve the Afghan population.
