Christian Man Arrested on Blasphemy Charges in Lahore, Pakistan

Samuel Arif, a 26-year-old Christian man, was arrested and placed in judicial remand in Lahore, Pakistan, following accusations of blasphemy. The police registered a First Information Report against him under Sections 295-C and 298-A of the Pakistan Penal Code, which pertain to derogatory remarks against the Prophet Muhammad and holy personages. The complainant, Muhammad Umair Alam Khan, alleged that Arif used offensive language toward his minor daughters and claimed to have received a divine instruction to marry them.

Prior to his arrest, Arif was reportedly confronted and assaulted by a mob at a local gym. His family has denied the allegations, asserting that he was falsely accused due to personal enmity. The case has drawn attention from rights organizations, including Human Rights Focus Pakistan and Human Assistance & Development Services, which are providing legal support. Advocates are calling for a transparent investigation and emphasizing the need for due process, noting that blasphemy laws are frequently misused to settle personal disputes in the region.
