Chick-fil-A CEO Rejects AI Voice Ordering to Prioritize Human Interaction
Chick-fil-A CEO Andrew Cathy recently announced that the fast-food chain will not implement artificial intelligence for drive-thru voice ordering. While the company is exploring other technological advancements, such as drone delivery and behind-the-scenes operational tools, Cathy emphasized a "human plus" strategy. He stated that the brand intends to maintain human-to-human interaction at its restaurants to preserve the warm hospitality that defines the customer experience.
This decision contrasts with the approach taken by other major fast-food chains. McDonald’s recently unveiled its new AI-powered system, ArchIQ, which includes a voice-ordering feature called Archy. McDonald’s executives claim the technology can process orders in English and Spanish with over 90% accuracy and is expected to save approximately 50 labor hours per week at participating locations. While Chick-fil-A is prioritizing personal service over automated ordering, a company representative declined to clarify whether Cathy’s stance represents a permanent policy or a temporary operational choice.
