Sudanese Pastor’s Son Remains Imprisoned Despite Acquittal

Daniel, the 24-year-old son of a Sudanese pastor, has been detained in Khartoum’s Kobar Prison for over a year. His father, identified as Pastor Emmanuel, previously served as a secretary for the pastors' council in Sudan before fleeing to Chad in 2012 to escape government pressure regarding church property. Daniel was arrested in July 2025 after returning to the country to visit his wife.

Although courts have reportedly found Daniel innocent of the charges brought against him, he remains in custody. Pastor Emmanuel alleges that his son’s continued detention is orchestrated by an influential individual who seeks to marry Daniel’s wife. According to the pastor, this individual has used his position to block Daniel’s release and has issued threats against the family. Despite legal efforts to secure his freedom, Daniel remains in prison, where his father fears he faces ongoing risks to his safety.
