Chick-fil-A CEO Discusses Corporate Purpose and Sunday Closures
Chick-fil-A CEO Andrew Cathy recently discussed the company’s long-standing tradition of closing on Sundays, attributing the practice to the founders' Southern Baptist roots and a desire to provide employees with time for rest and worship. Cathy emphasized that this policy remains a core component of the company’s identity, which he describes as being built to glorify God.
During the interview, Cathy addressed the company's history of public controversy, specifically the 2012 backlash following comments made by his father, former CEO Dan Cathy, regarding same-sex marriage. While the company faced significant protests and boycotts at that time, it continued to experience substantial financial growth. Andrew Cathy stated that the company now focuses on providing hospitality to all customers, inviting those who may have previously boycotted the brand to experience their service and food. He noted that the organization’s primary goal is to welcome everyone who walks through their doors.
