At Least Nine Killed in Weekend Attacks Across Nigeria’s Plateau State

A series of violent attacks in Nigeria’s Plateau State over the weekend resulted in the deaths of at least nine people, according to reports. On Sunday morning, a Baptist pastor and his secretary were killed while traveling to a church service in Dorowa Babuje, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. The pastor’s son was also reported to be critically wounded in the incident. Local residents and advocacy groups have attributed the violence to armed Fulani militia.

The weekend violence began on Saturday evening in Gana-Ropp, where five laborers were ambushed and killed while traveling. Additional fatalities were reported in the villages of Rantyidi and Baten Wereng. Reports indicate that attackers also targeted farms in Dorowa Maranba, seizing livestock. While some sources report at least nine deaths, others suggest the toll may be higher due to ongoing violence in the region.

Community leaders and youth organizations, including the Berom Youth Moulders and the Mwaghavul Development Association, have condemned the attacks and called for an urgent increase in security presence. Authorities, including the military and police, were reportedly deployed to the area, though residents noted that the attackers briefly gained control of major roads, complicating evacuation efforts.
