London Court Acquits Evangelist Prosecuted for Distributing Religious Literature

A London magistrate’s court has acquitted 72-year-old evangelist Richard Johnson, who faced criminal charges for distributing Christian tracts in the Soho district. The legal proceedings, which lasted nearly two years, centered on Johnson’s public expression of traditional Christian teachings regarding marriage and sexual morality.

The prosecution argued that Soho’s status as a hub for the LGBTQ community necessitated a restriction on such speech to maintain the area as a "safe space." Supporters of Johnson, including the Christian Legal Centre, contended that the prosecution attempted to establish geographical zones where specific worldviews could be shielded from dissenting opinions.
