Ugandan Court Sentences Eight to Death for Murder of Two Evangelists
A judge at the Iganga High Court in Uganda has sentenced eight individuals to death following the 2024 murders of Christian evangelists Robert Baguma and Moses Okech. Five of the defendants were convicted of carrying out the fatal assault, while three others received the same sentence for failing to report the crime despite being present during the attack.
The incident occurred on August 19, 2024, in the Namayingo District near Lake Victoria. According to witness testimony provided during the trial, the evangelists were ambushed while returning from an outreach mission to local fishermen. Witnesses reported that the assailants accused the men of misleading the community and destroyed their Bibles before killing them. The court proceedings confirmed that the attackers were local residents who had previously interacted with the victims during their three-month ministry in the area.
