Son of Cuban Baptist Pastor Faces Potential Deportation from U.S.

Daniel Arcadis Solano Jaume, the 19-year-old son of a Cuban Baptist pastor, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since June. His detention follows a traffic stop in Miami-Dade County, and his legal bid for permanent U.S. residency was recently rejected by a California judge. Advocates from Christian Solidarity Worldwide have expressed concern that Solano Jaume could face imprisonment if he is deported to Cuba.

The family, including the Rev. Arcadis Solano Silvera, entered the United States legally in August 2023 after fleeing alleged government harassment in Santiago de Cuba. The pastor reported that his family faced years of intimidation by State Security agents, including threats against his church. The family decided to leave the country after authorities attempted to force their son into military registration at age 15, which is below the legal age for compulsory service in Cuba. The Rev. Solano Silvera, a hospice chaplain, stated that his family continues to trust in legal avenues and prayer as they seek a fair evaluation of their son's case.
