Two Sisters Escape Arson Attack Following Conversion to Christianity in Uganda

Two sisters, Amina and Shamila, narrowly escaped an arson attack on their home in Kibenge, Kasese District, Uganda, on September 6. The sisters reported that their father, Muhamud, doused their residence with petrol and ignited it while they were sleeping. The attack occurred less than two weeks after the young women converted from Islam to Christianity on August 26.

The sisters managed to escape the burning structure by removing bricks from a wall to create an exit. While the fire destroyed their home and all personal belongings, both women survived the incident. Local Christian neighbors arrived to assist the sisters and alerted community leaders following the blaze.

Local leaders have condemned the act, describing the violence as a criminal matter rather than a legitimate religious dispute. The sisters stated that despite the loss of their property, their commitment to their new faith remains steadfast. Authorities are currently facing calls from community members to bring the father to justice for the attempted arson.
