Father intervenes in deadly shooting at Oregon elementary school

A shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, resulted in the deaths of three children and one teacher on Thursday. Authorities identified the deceased teacher as 25-year-old Meghan Lambert and one of the children as 5-year-old Rhoam Summer. Two other victims, a 7-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher, remain hospitalized in critical condition.

Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old father whose daughters attend the school, intervened after witnessing the suspect, 16-year-old Griffin J. John II, enter the building. Giamanco retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and confronted the shooter, who had already engaged in a physical struggle with a teacher. Giamanco fired at the suspect, striking him multiple times. He later credited the unnamed teacher’s bravery for creating the opportunity to stop the gunman, stating he felt he was the final line of defense for the students.

Police reports indicate the suspect initially approached the school from an undeveloped area, firing at a passing motorist before forcing entry through exterior doors. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
