Localized Ceasefire Begins in Oleshky Amid Ongoing Russian Strikes Across Ukraine
A temporary, localized ceasefire commenced Tuesday in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid. The truce, which is scheduled to last until November 1, was negotiated with the involvement of U.S. First Lady Melania Trump and received support from Pope Leo XIV. Aid workers aim to provide food, water, and medicine to the remaining 1,700 to 2,000 residents, many of whom have faced severe shortages since the town was occupied in 2022.
Despite the agreement in Oleshky, Russian military operations continued across 11 other Ukrainian regions. Authorities reported that Moscow launched 16 ballistic missiles and over 280 drones, striking a university campus and infrastructure in Kyiv. Ukrainian officials confirmed at least one death and 15 injuries in the capital. While President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks as targeting vital civilian infrastructure, Russian officials maintained that the strikes were directed at facilities connected to Ukrainian military operations.
