German Free Evangelical Churches Report Significant Increase in Baptisms

The Federation of Free Evangelical Churches in Germany (FeG) has released new membership and baptismal data, highlighting a notable rise in professions of faith. As of December 31, 2025, the federation comprised 504 congregations with 40,933 members. Most significantly, the organization reported that annual baptisms rose from 1,491 to 2,624 over a four-year period, representing a 76% increase. The number of baptismal services also grew from 554 to 822 during this timeframe.

Federation officials noted that member churches recorded approximately 2,700 decisions for faith in Jesus Christ in the most recent two-year reporting cycle, a figure higher than those seen in previous years. Managing director Guido Sadler expressed gratitude for these trends, noting that the data reflects a growing interest in faith. While evangelicals represent a small minority of Germany's 84 million residents, these figures contrast with the membership losses reported by the country's two largest church bodies. The federation noted that some of the growth is measured against 2021, a year when public health restrictions significantly impacted church gatherings and religious services.
