Evangelical Press Association Members Vote on Proposed Name Change

Members of the Evangelical Press Association (EPA) are currently voting on a proposal to rename the 75-year-old organization the Christian Communicators Network. The vote, which began in mid-September, is being conducted via a secure online platform and will remain open until October 7. Eligible voters include individual members and staff of member publications.

If approved, the change would replace the organization's name entirely. Board members stated the proposal follows a year of research and prayer, arguing that the term "Evangelical" has acquired political and cultural connotations that may obscure its theological meaning. They further noted that "Communicators" and "Network" better reflect the modern digital landscape and the diverse roles of their members, which now include podcasters and digital editors alongside traditional journalists.

While the board emphasized that the organization’s Statement of Faith and commitment to ethical journalism will remain unchanged, the proposal has sparked debate among members. The board maintains that the shift is a mission-focused decision intended to clarify the organization's public identity while keeping its underlying theology intact.
