Bible Design Pioneer Klaus Krogh Dies at 74

Klaus Krogh, the cofounder of the graphic design firm 2K/Denmark and a significant figure in modern Bible typography, passed away on October 6 at the age of 74. Over a career spanning more than four decades, Krogh sought to increase Bible engagement by improving the readability and aesthetic quality of printed Scripture.

Beginning his career at the Norwegian Bible Society in the 1980s, Krogh later established his own company, which collaborated with publishers in over 43 countries, including United Bible Societies and HarperCollins Christian Publishing. He developed specialized typefaces such as Bible Sans, Bible Slab, and Bible Serif, which were engineered to balance visual appeal with the space-saving requirements of complex Bible printing.

In his later years, Krogh focused on accessibility, notably working with Lifeway Christian Resources and Crossway Publishing in 2024 to release dyslexia-friendly Bible editions. Krogh frequently stated that his design philosophy was rooted in the belief that unreadable Bibles hindered the communication of the message, and he viewed his work as a means to make the text more accessible to a global audience.
