Christian Concern Urges BMA to Support New NHS Guidance on Biological Sex
Christian Concern has formally requested that the British Medical Association (BMA) withdraw its opposition to new NHS guidance, which mandates that biological sex, rather than gender identity, should determine policies regarding sex-segregated spaces. The organization argues that this guidance is necessary to protect the privacy and dignity of patients and staff.
This call follows several high-profile legal cases supported by the Christian Legal Centre, including those of nurse Jennifer Melle and the “Darlington nurses,” who faced disciplinary action after raising concerns about gender-identity policies in medical settings. Andrea Williams, Chief Executive of Christian Concern, stated that the BMA’s opposition represents a failure of leadership and ignores the harm caused to professionals who uphold biological reality.
In contrast, the BMA has expressed deep concern regarding the new NHS guidance. The association maintains that the policy could lead to the implementation of local rules that are exclusionary toward transgender and non-binary staff and patients.
