Bible Societies Celebrate Bible Month with International Events and Anniversaries

Bible societies across Argentina, Spain, Peru, and the Dominican Republic are observing September as Bible Month, hosting a series of festivals, exhibitions, and conferences. The month was selected to honor the September 1569 printing of the first complete Spanish Bible, known as the Biblia del Oso, and to commemorate the September 30 feast day of Jerome of Stridon, the translator of the Latin Vulgate.

In addition to general programming, two organizations are marking significant historical milestones: the Bible Society in Spain is celebrating 190 years of service, while the Dominican Republic Bible Society is observing its 75th anniversary. Celebrations include online seminars on translation history in Spain, youth and children’s festivals in Peru, and a large-scale conference in Argentina. The Dominican Republic society has adopted the theme "The Word of God: light for the Dominican Republic" for its commemorative activities, which include workshops, webinars, and special church services throughout the month.
