Zelenskyy Warns International Airlines of Risks in Russian Airspace

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued a warning to international airlines and insurers, stating that Russian airspace is becoming increasingly hazardous due to the expansion of Ukraine’s long-range drone and missile operations. Zelenskyy emphasized that the skies over Russia are becoming crowded with drones as Ukraine seeks to strike military and energy infrastructure in response to the ongoing invasion. He clarified that Kyiv does not intend to target civilian aircraft but cautioned that the scale of drone activity necessitates a reassessment of safety for commercial aviation.

The warning follows a series of Russian strikes in the Kyiv region that resulted in at least 12 deaths and numerous injuries. In response to Zelenskyy’s comments, Russian President Vladimir Putin characterized the statement as a form of state terrorism and indicated that Moscow would respond to any incidents. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s ongoing campaign against Russian oil refineries has strained domestic fuel supplies, leading Russia to seek processing assistance from neighboring Kazakhstan. Analysts note that while these efforts provide some relief, the capacity of such facilities remains insufficient to meet Russia's total daily consumption needs.
