Real Estate Developer Advocates for Family-Friendly Urban Housing

Real estate developer Bobby Fijan is working to address the challenges young families face when raising children in urban environments. Drawing on his personal experience as a member of Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Fijan argues that many families leave cities not by choice, but due to a lack of suitable housing. He notes that recent urban development has prioritized small, one- and two-bedroom units designed for single professionals rather than functional spaces for families.

Fijan co-founded the American Housing Corporation to promote the development of more family-oriented urban apartments. He suggests that when families remain in city centers, they contribute to more rooted church communities and provide children with unique opportunities for independence and cultural engagement. By optimizing floor plans for functionality, Fijan aims to make urban child-rearing more affordable and accessible, challenging the perception that city living is incompatible with raising a family.
