Ukrainian President Zelensky Rejects Allegations of Religious Persecution

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed claims that his government is persecuting Christians, asserting that the nation maintains a high degree of religious freedom. During an interview on "This Week on Capitol Hill," Zelensky highlighted the existence of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, which includes representatives from various faiths, including Christians, Jews, and Muslims. He stated that this council meets monthly at the presidential office to address humanitarian aid and the impact of the ongoing conflict.

Zelensky specifically addressed criticisms voiced by American commentator Tucker Carlson, suggesting that Carlson lacks firsthand knowledge of the situation in Ukraine. The president invited critics to visit the country to observe how the government interacts with diverse religious groups and to witness the destruction caused by Russian forces. The Orthodox Public Affairs Committee has previously criticized Carlson’s remarks on the subject, labeling them as Russian propaganda. Meanwhile, host Tony Perkins, who visited Ukraine in August, corroborated Zelensky’s claims, noting that he observed religious cooperation and freedom during his time in the country.
