President Trump Announces Plan to End U.S. Military Aid to Israel

Based on 2 sources Updated 7 hours ago

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced an agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to terminate nearly $4 billion in annual American military assistance to Israel by the end of 2026. President Trump stated that Israel is sufficiently prosperous to fund its own defense needs. While the President claimed the initiative was mutual, the Prime Minister’s office has not independently confirmed the agreement, and Netanyahu has previously advocated for a more gradual reduction of aid rather than an abrupt end.

The announcement arrives as Israel faces approximately $10 billion in outstanding orders for American weapons, including 25 F-35 fighter jets, which were expected to be covered by future funding. The current 10-year security agreement, signed in 2016, is scheduled to run through 2028. Legal experts and observers note that the President’s authority to unilaterally terminate these funds remains unclear, as Congress maintains control over federal appropriations. The proposed shift could significantly impact both the U.S.-Israel strategic partnership and American defense manufacturers, who rely on the aid-funded contracts for production.
