Escalating Tensions Threaten Christian Community in West Bank Village

A delegation from the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) recently visited Taybeh, a Palestinian village in the West Bank, to investigate reports of increasing intimidation by Israeli settlers. Joseph Hazboun, the organization's regional director, reported witnessing a confrontation where a settler allegedly used a tractor to threaten his group. Hazboun described the incident as part of a broader pattern of systematic pressure on local families, noting that some residents are now unable to safely access their own property due to damaged fencing and the presence of armed individuals.

According to CNEWA, these incidents are linked to the expansion of unauthorized herding outposts in the region. Hazboun characterized the current situation as the most severe crisis he has observed in his three decades of work in the area. In response to the rising violence, the Israeli military has reportedly designated Taybeh as a closed zone for nonresidents to mitigate further conflict. While some Israeli government officials have been accused of supporting these settler activities, the situation remains a point of significant concern for the local Christian population and international observers monitoring the ongoing territorial tensions.
