U.S. Senator Chris Murphy Hospitalized Following Stroke
U.S. Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut is receiving medical treatment after suffering a stroke on Saturday afternoon. According to a statement from his chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, the 53-year-old lawmaker experienced numbness in his arm while attending his son’s hockey game. He was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital for further monitoring.
Medical staff report that Senator Murphy is awake, alert, and responding well to treatment. His office expressed optimism regarding his prognosis for a full recovery. While Murphy is not up for reelection in the upcoming midterm contests, he had been actively campaigning for Democratic candidates and recently engaged in public criticism of President Donald Trump’s foreign policy.
Colleagues from both sides of the aisle have shared messages of support and prayers for the senator. Among those offering well-wishes were Senators Chuck Grassley, Kevin Cramer, Ben Ray Luján, and John Fetterman, the latter two of whom shared their own experiences as stroke survivors.
