Police investigate vandalism at St Alban’s Church war memorial in Warrington

Cheshire Police are seeking witnesses after a statue of Jesus Christ was vandalized at the war memorial of St Alban’s Church in Warrington. The incident, which involved the statue's head being smashed off and the application of offensive graffiti, is believed to have occurred between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday, October 30. A member of the congregation discovered the damage the following Sunday morning.

Parish priest Canon Christopher Cunningham described the act as a form of persecution and a reminder of the evil present in the world. Volunteers have since worked to remove the graffiti from the site. Chief Inspector Joseph McNally condemned the vandalism, noting the particular distress caused by the desecration of a war memorial intended to honor those who died in service. Authorities have released a CCTV image of a person of interest and are urging anyone with relevant footage or information to contact the police as the investigation continues.
