Former Open Doors UK and Ireland CEO Eddie Lyle Dies at 73

Eddie Lyle, the former Chief Executive and President of Open Doors UK and Ireland, passed away on September 19 at the age of 73. His death followed complications from heart surgery, and he was reportedly surrounded by family and friends at the time of his passing.

Born in Northern Ireland, Lyle dedicated much of his career to supporting the persecuted church. Before joining Open Doors in 2005, he served with organizations such as Youth for Christ and Release International. During his tenure at Open Doors, he traveled extensively to regions where Christians face significant hardship, including Vietnam and Nigeria. Colleagues remember him for his commitment to bridging the gap between Christians who share a common faith but differ in their levels of religious freedom.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Christine, and their son, Adam. Current CEO Tiffany Barrans paid tribute to his legacy, describing him as a mentor and friend whose vision and kindness were instrumental in shaping the ministry's global impact.
