The Prime Minister’s comments followed public controversy sparked by an interview given by his wife, Sara Netanyahu. While Netanyahu maintained that his wife did not intend to allege betrayal, his remarks drew sharp criticism from political opponents. Yair Golan, chairman of the Democrats party, characterized the Prime Minister's statement as "damage control" and accused him of failing to take personal responsibility for the leadership lapses that occurred during the initial hours of the Hamas-led offensive.
