Christian Evangelists Evicted from Burning Man Following Policy Violations

A group of Christian evangelists led by Navy veteran John Calvin Hinerman was evicted from the Burning Man festival in Nevada after organizers cited repeated violations of event policies. Hinerman, a member of Philip Renner Ministries, claimed his team was discriminated against for sharing their faith, asserting that approximately 800 people had converted to Christianity during their time at the event. He further alleged that his group was given only three hours to dismantle their camp.

Burning Man officials stated that the eviction was necessary because the group failed to respect the privacy of other participants. According to organizers, the camp received multiple warnings regarding the requirement to obtain consent before filming or engaging attendees, but they continued to disregard these rules. While some witnesses reported that the group initially attracted visitors by offering refreshments, others described the subsequent evangelism efforts as aggressive. Burning Man’s policies prohibit unauthorized brand promotion and emphasize the importance of participant consent within the temporary community.
