Ambassador Huckabee Raises Concerns Over Gaza Peace Plan Implementation

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has expressed concerns regarding the implementation of President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace initiative. In a recent diplomatic cable, Huckabee warned that the U.S.-led Board of Peace and the American Embassy in Jerusalem lack the necessary personnel, resources, and logistical support to manage the transition from military to civilian oversight. The Pentagon plans to reduce its presence at the International Gaza Support Center, but the ambassador cautioned that this shift could hinder intelligence sharing and operational coordination with the Israel Defense Forces.

The peace initiative continues to face significant challenges, particularly regarding the disarmament of Hamas. While an October 2025 ceasefire facilitated the release of hostages and prisoners, efforts to establish a new governance structure and secure an Israeli military withdrawal have stalled. Israel maintains that complete disarmament is a prerequisite for its withdrawal, while Hamas has previously proposed placing its weapons under the control of a U.S.-backed Palestinian administration. The future of the proposed International Stabilization Force remains uncertain as stakeholders navigate these complex security and administrative hurdles.
