Study Finds Majority of Americans Report Experiencing Miracles

A new study from the Wheatley Institute at Brigham Young University suggests that spiritual life in the United States remains active despite shifting trends in religious affiliation. The "Survey of Lived Religion," which polled 2,005 adults, indicates that 76% of Americans believe they have witnessed or experienced a miracle at some point in their lives. Approximately half of the respondents reported encountering such events at least a few times annually, with 10% claiming to experience them more than once a week.

Researchers noted that these findings reveal a complex spiritual landscape that extends beyond traditional metrics like weekly church attendance. The data shows that 77% of participants express gratitude to God at least monthly, and 43% do so multiple times each day. The study concludes that even among those who identify as religiously unaffiliated, many maintain an openness to spiritual experiences and beliefs regarding the afterlife, suggesting that American religious life is evolving rather than disappearing.
