Exeter Cathedral to Host First National Harvest of the Sea Service

Exeter Cathedral is set to host the inaugural National Harvest of the Sea service on October 11, 2026. The event aims to establish an annual tradition honoring the British fishing industry, mirroring long-standing harvest celebrations for the agricultural sector. The service will recognize the contributions of those working at sea as well as the thousands employed in shore-based roles, including processing, distribution, and retail.

The service will be led by the Dean of Exeter, with the Bishop of Exeter scheduled to deliver the sermon. Additional participants include Helen Lovell-Smith of The Fishermen's Mission and Seafish Chief Executive Colin Faulkner. While Queen Camilla will not attend, she has provided a letter of support for the occasion.

Organizers, including the Plymouth Fishing & Seafood Association, describe the event as a tribute to the resilience and heritage of coastal communities. By highlighting the importance of the seafood industry to the nation's food supply and culture, they hope to foster greater public appreciation for the people behind the industry.
