Egyptian Coptic Christian Killed in Libya After Refusing to Renounce Faith

Milad Malak, a 20-year-old Egyptian Coptic deacon, has died in Libya following his abduction by armed kidnappers. Malak, who traveled to Libya from his village of Sabrbay in search of work, was reportedly held in the city of Zliten alongside two Muslim companions. While the families of his companions secured their release by paying a ransom, Malak’s family reported that their payment did not result in his freedom.

According to his sister, Madonna Malek, the kidnappers subjected her brother to severe torture and demanded he renounce his Christian faith. She stated that Malak remained steadfast in his beliefs despite the abuse. While some local reports have attributed the abduction to a cell affiliated with the Islamic State, this claim remains unverified and the group has not issued a formal statement of responsibility. The incident has prompted calls for justice from the victim's family as they mourn his death.
