Dozens Killed in Russian Airstrike on Ukrainian Humanitarian Aid Center
A Russian aerial bombardment of a humanitarian aid center in Komyshuvakha, Ukraine, has resulted in at least 33 confirmed deaths. The attack, which involved at least nine bombs, struck a former school building that had been repurposed to distribute aid and provide shelter to civilians in the Zaporizhzhia region. Local authorities report that approximately 50 people remain missing as rescue operations continue through the rubble of the collapsed structure.
The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine has stated that the attack may constitute a violation of international humanitarian law. Officials noted that the aid distribution event had been publicly announced in advance, suggesting that Russian forces either targeted the civilian gathering intentionally or failed to exercise necessary precautions. Danielle Bell, head of the UN mission, emphasized that the timing and location of the distribution were well-publicized.
In contrast, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that its forces targeted Ukrainian military units in the area. The ministry claimed the operation resulted in the deaths of up to 25 Ukrainian servicemen and the destruction of military equipment, though these assertions remain unverified.
