Couple proceeds with wedding ceremony in flooded Philippine church

A couple in Hagonoy, Bulacan, held their wedding ceremony on September 2, 2026, despite significant flooding at St. John the Baptist Parish. The bride, Liean Liza Galang, waded through waist-deep water in her wedding gown to reach the altar and marry Gilbert Chico. The church had been partially submerged for nearly a month due to heavy monsoon rains that impacted the island of Luzon.

While parish officials reportedly advised the couple to postpone the event due to the rising water levels, the pair chose to proceed with their original plans. Wedding photographer Mikko Rey Alfonso noted that the ceremony was attended by fewer than 15 guests. To accommodate the conditions, the bride had her gown altered to shorten the train. The couple stated that they were determined to marry on their scheduled date and described the experience as an unforgettable event despite the challenging circumstances.
