Christian Commentator Samuel Sey Detained by ICE and Facing Deportation

Conservative Christian writer and commentator Samuel Sey was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on October 21, 2026, at the Columbus International Airport in Ohio. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security stated that Sey, a native of Ghana who previously resided in Canada, entered the United States legally in 2022 but overstayed his visa by more than four years. Authorities report that Sey has agreed to a voluntary departure and will remain in custody until his removal from the country.

While government officials maintain that Sey is in violation of immigration laws, supporters have launched a crowdfunding campaign to assist his family. The campaign, organized by former Babylon Bee managing editor Joel Berry, has raised over $24,000. Organizers stated they are seeking to secure Sey's release on bail to address potential clerical issues regarding his legal residency status. The funds are intended to cover legal fees and support his wife and children during his absence from work.
