Protesters confront vicar inside Doncaster Minster during anti-immigration march

A confrontation occurred at Doncaster Minster on Saturday when participants of a Unite the Right UK demonstration entered the church to challenge the Rev Canon Dr Richard Firth. The protesters accused the vicar of using the church's bell-ringing to disrupt their speeches held outside on the high street. Video footage shows the clergyman explaining that the bells were part of a routine Saturday practice, while protesters questioned his stance on national issues and his presence at a counter-protest.

Police officers intervened to separate the group from the vicar, maintaining a heavy presence at the site to prevent further escalation. Steve Dand, a spokesperson for Unite the Right UK, subsequently issued a public apology for the incident. He stated that the individuals who entered the church did not represent the organization and condemned the act of confronting a clergyman inside a house of worship, regardless of disagreements regarding his personal participation in counter-protests.
