Al Sharpton Rejects Defamation Threat Regarding Nolan Wells Investigation

Attorneys for civil rights leader Al Sharpton have formally rejected a defamation lawsuit threat issued by legal representatives for three individuals present during the final outing of 18-year-old Nolan Wells. Wells was found dead near Mississippi’s Horn Island in July 2025, two days after traveling there by boat with a group of approximately 30 people. The cause and manner of his death remain officially undetermined.

The legal dispute stems from a demand letter sent by attorneys for Morgan Seymour, Jax Pitalo, and Warren Hudson. They allege that Sharpton’s public comments, including remarks made during a July interview and an August vigil, falsely implied their clients were involved in Wells’ death or had tampered with evidence. The group has demanded a public apology and the removal of these statements.

In a 15-page response, Sharpton’s legal team maintained that the primary focus remains the unresolved circumstances of the teenager's death. Sharpton, who leads the National Action Network, stated that he will continue to advocate for the Wells family and remains committed to seeking answers regarding how the young man died.
