Angel Studios has announced the upcoming release of "Zero A.D.: The Birth of Christ," a new biblical drama-thriller scheduled to hit theaters on December 11. Directed by Alejandro Monteverde, known for his work on "Sound of Freedom," the film depicts the Nativity story against a backdrop of political instability and the threat posed by King Herod, played by Jim Caviezel. The narrative focuses on the journey of Mary and Joseph as they strive to protect the newborn Messiah.
Monteverde, who spent 18 years developing the project, stated that he aims to challenge audience perceptions of the well-known biblical account. The film features Deva Cassel as Mary and Jamie Ward as Joseph, with the director encouraging his cast to explore the emotional and spiritual depth of their roles. While the film centers on the birth of Jesus, it is rated PG-13 for thematic elements, bloody images, and strong violent content, reflecting the dangerous environment faced by the Holy Family.
