World Evangelical Alliance Marks 180th Anniversary with Global Celebration

The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) recently commemorated its 180th anniversary with a series of international events, including an online celebration attended by hundreds of participants from over 22 countries. Founded in London in 1846, the organization has expanded into a network of 164 national alliances, currently representing approximately 650 million evangelicals across more than 160 countries and territories.

During the proceedings, Secretary General Botrus Mansour addressed the challenges of maintaining unity amidst diverse cultural and national identities. He emphasized that the shared faith of evangelicals remains a stronger bond than their individual differences. The event featured historical reflections, including a tribute to the late theologian John Stott, as well as worship, prayer, and the introduction of a new website.

Looking toward the future, the WEA highlighted its “Roadmap 2030” strategy, which focuses on strengthening national alliances, advocacy, and organizational collaboration. Additionally, Mansour introduced “Call 33,” a new collaborative initiative aimed at preparing the global network for the year 2033.
