Ligonier Ministries Addresses Theological Uncertainty in the United Kingdom
Ligonier Ministries has released findings from its latest State of Theology survey, highlighting significant uncertainty regarding core Christian doctrines among adults in the United Kingdom. According to the report, 39% of respondents expressed doubt regarding the doctrine of the Trinity, while similar percentages reported uncertainty about the divinity of Jesus and the nature of the Holy Spirit. The survey also noted that 33% of participants were unsure whether the Bible is literally true.
In response to these findings, the organization emphasizes the necessity of clear, biblically grounded teaching to help both new and established believers understand foundational Christian truths. To facilitate this, Ligonier has provided a free digital study guide designed for group discussion, alongside a collection of resources focused on the doctrine of the Trinity. These materials, featuring contributions from theologians such as R.C. Sproul, Sinclair Ferguson, and Michael Reeves, aim to address the disconnect between contemporary public opinion and traditional biblical teaching.
