Andrew Rumsey Installed as New Bishop of St Albans

The Church of England officially welcomed Andrew Rumsey as the new Bishop of St Albans during a service held Saturday at St Albans Cathedral. The diocese, which encompasses Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and parts of north London, includes over 400 churches, numerous schools, and various chaplaincies. Rumsey previously served as the Bishop of Ramsbury and brings experience from ministry roles across London and Surrey.

Beyond his ecclesiastical background, Rumsey is an author and singer-songwriter. Media reports have noted his upbringing in Luton, where he attended the same secondary school as influencer Andrew Tate and lived on the same housing estate as activist Tommy Robinson. Rumsey has publicly stated that his only shared perspective with Tate is a critical view of their former school.

As he assumes his new role, Rumsey enters a diocese currently engaged in discussions regarding the future of local parish ministry. His appointment occurs as the national church continues to address institutional reforms, including improvements to safeguarding procedures and responses to past abuse cases.
